What you will experience here will take you back to another century when people lived in a very different way… unlike so many you hear about, this trip is sure to be a true adventure of a life time. Through this region passed one of the artery of the Great Silk Road – the route through the Pamir knot. Here were the boundaries of the Great Game, players. The Czarist Russia and the British Indian Empire coincided and collided in these high Pamirs and finally decided to co-exist with these high regions as their boundaries in 1890’s

Day 1: Dushanbe

Our guide will meet you in the airport and accompany to the hotel. Rest. Meeting with the guide at the hotel lobby at 11:00. visit the National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan, which houses the famous Buddha statue in Nirvana. Lunch. After lunch, Rudaki Park, Central Park, Samani monument, flagpole. Drive to the Hissar fortress (VII-XVII centuries). This historic site has fortified areas and a citadel. The fortress was the residence of the envoy of the Bukhara emir; it was located on a high hill and was well protected by 1 m thick walls and loopholes for guns and cannons. Among other interesting places in Gisar: recently restored monuments "Madrasah I Kukhna" (new school of the 16-17th centuries), a mosque; mausoleum "Mahdumi Azam" (16th century). We finish the day with a visit to the local bazaar, where you can feel the real Tajik spirit, witness the oriental art of trade and see the locals shop. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2: Dushanbe – Kalai Khumb (285 km)
In the morning we will drive to Kalai Khumb via mountain road. You will drive over high Khoburubot Pass (3252m) known as Western Pamir Tract. The road goes through the most picturesque river valley and amazing gorges in the terrain, where one can stop for rest and shoot photos of the mountain and rivers. On the way you will see small villages and meet local people. Tajiks are by nature hard working, hospitable, and kind-hearted. This nation greatly respects its traditions and folklore. This trip is attractive for the lovers of exotics, those curious about the ethnic and cultural diversity and captivated by the beauty of wild nature. Accommodation in Guest House.

Day 3: Kalai Khumb - Khorog (245 km)
Kalaikhum – Khorog: The road will follow near Panj River, a tributary of the mighty Amu Darya (the famous River Oxus). Khorog is the administrative centre of the Pamir region, dramatically set deep in the valley at the confluence of the Panj and Gunt rivers and boxed in by the mountain peaks. Visit, Botanical Garden (one of the highest in the world) and the site of one of Central Asia’s few university campuses. Hotel.

Day 4: Khorog – Ishkashim (120 km)
This is a smooth journey. Ishkashim was the point of entry into Badakshan region and the route taken by Marco Polo to see the local king. Visit to Mineral Hot Spring Garm Chashma 7 km from main road to the left. Guest House.

Day 5: Ishkashim - Langar (155 km)
Drive to Langar. This is the Pamir branch of Silk Road. We will see the local shrines all with trophy heads of Marco Polo sheep and Ibexes hunted by locals with traditions dating back in history. We stand here at the mouth of Wakhan Corridor overlooking the Afghan Badakhshan (the place of famous history of Pamirs named Great Game). This part of the region is dotted with a variety of religious sites from Sufi shrines, Buddhist Stupas and Zoroastrian Fire Temples. On the way visit to museum of the old castles and fortress Kah Kaha and Yamchun that once guarded this branch of the Silk Road, museum of local philosopher and scholar Sufi Muborak Vahani, sepulcher of Shoh Kambari Oftob, bathing in hot Sacred spring Bibi Fotimai Zahro in Vichkut, visit to Yamchun Fortress and Buddha Stupa in Vrang. Vakhan folklore performance during the dinner. Homestay.

Day 6: Langar – Yashilkul Lake (135 km)
After breakfast you will leave the spectacular views of Afghanistan, with the ice-capped summit of the Wakhan Range, and the Pamir River which marking the border and crossing Khargushi pass you will come to Bulun kul and Yashil Kul Lakes, where we’ll stay in the small hamlet of Bulunkul, either staying in yurts or a small guesthouse. The people living here are Pamiri tajiks and Kyrgyz pastoralists living in a harsh but hospitable environment. Here tourists deepen his understanding of how people have adapted to live in such remote mountainous areas. Walking around the ruins of a caravanserai and solar calendar on the north side of Lake Yashil Kul. Local Home Stay.

Day 7: Bulunkul – Murgab (145 km)
After breakfast we will enjoy M41 Pamir High Way and continue our road via Alichul Valley near some small lakes to Murgab. Murgab is a quiet town with an only bazaar of the High Pamir region where Kyrgyz’s and Tajiks live. Visit to handicraft shop in “Yak House”. Guesthouse.

Day 8: Murgab – Rangkul – Karakul (200 km)
The views of mountains and glaciers along the way today are simply breath taking as the road takes us to the Ak Baital Pass (The White Horse Pass 4655m). This is the highest pass in the former USSR. Short visit to Rangkul Lake and village. Then we will continue our trip to Karakul. This is indeed the “The Roof of the World” and the hidden site in this expanse of arid landscape is the stunning Karakul Lake, created millions of years ago by a meteorite and noted as one of the most geologically fascinating places on earth. We will have an opportunity for a short walk along the lake. The surrounding area offers some spectacular views, which are especially dramatic with the sun setting over the nearby snow-capped mountains. Home Stay.

Day 9: Karakul – Alichur (235 km)
Leaving Karakul Lake, the road takes us to the into the wild and empty moonscape of the Alichur plain, via the Ak Baital Pass (The White Horse Pass), which at 4655m. Views of mountains and glaciers along the way are simply breathtaking. Home Stay.

Day 10: Alichur – Khorog (215 km)
In the morning we will drive to Khorog along Pamir Highway, known as M41 Pamir Tract. It is considered the second highest mountain road after highway of Tibet. The road lies over mountains and passes on the elevations of more than 4 000 meters above sea level. On the way you will drive over Koitezak pass (4 271 m). The almost inaccessible landscape and the rocky mountains of this corner of the world have given safe haven to a unique diversity of wildlife. Amongst the most common species of wild mammals are Turkestan rat, tiger-cat, grizzly bear, badger, stoat, fox, grey and red wolves. Pamirs

Day 11: Khorog – Kalai Khumb (245 km)
Drive to Kalai Khumb. On the way visit the ancient city of Karon. This area consists of high Rocky Mountains over 6 000 meters and only 1 road was possible to be built. Passing though the Pamirs, the tourists have the rare opportunity to not only marvel the beauty of virgin environment, but also know more about the ethnography, history and everyday life of mountain dwellers and with this imagine how the history of humanity evolved as in the story of creation. On the way we will stop in small villages to communicate with local people and to see their life. Human settlements are located on both sides of the river in narrow mountain valleys. On the other side of the river you will see Afghan stony villages and gardens. Accommodation in Guest House.

Day 12: Kalai Khumb - Dushanbe (360 km)
In the morning transfer to Dushanbe through the city of Kulyab, passes - Shurabad, Chromczak, Sharshar. Through the Nurek reservoir and the Hulbuk fortress. Arrival in Dushanbe, presumably at 19:30. Hotel.

Day 13: Dushanbe
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for departure.

Temperatures: please note that there can be large variations in temperatures. In daytime it can be very hot and a thin layer of clothing will be comfortable but long sleeves protect you from the sun rays. At night it can be cold so a layered approach is best. Predicting temperatures is very hard but they could range between 5’C and + 25’C. Rainfall in the Pamirs at this time of year is not expected but dust storms are. Please take a waterproof layer just in case.
